BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP

The book discussion group has chosen Jeffrey Toobin’s The Nine:  Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court.  The decisions of the Supreme Court have a profound effect on us as individuals and on our society and we will have some interesting discussions in reading this book.

Special topics:  Is Islam a fundamentally violent or peaceable religion?  This seminar class will examine the writings of various secondary authors (modern writers) who are sharply divided over this question.  Pre-requisite:  Islam Part I.  Requires a modest fee for a print-packet of material, and a commitment to prepare each week for class.

GERMAN MADE EASY

We’ll cover the relationship of German to English, grammatical characteristics, peculiarities, important words and phrases as well as tips for travelers.  We’ll look at the pitfalls presented by the close relationship between English and German.  Most of all, I believe that an enthusiastic approach to a serious subject can stimulate a person’s interest in learning about his or her own language.

Name Tags - We decided to provide nametags for everyone.  This is a great way to
help new members to get to know you, identifies you as part of ENCORE for classes off campus, and is an attractive accessory to your outfits - ok, that was a stretch.  Got 'em, wear 'em.!  Tip:  Keep them in your glove box so you always have them.  Don't got 'em, let someone from Membership Committee know.  Thanks!
