Step 2:
Always
examine applications and instructions carefully, an overlooked item could
cost you the scholarship, or much time could be wasted by applying for
a scholarship for which you donít meet the requirements.
Eligibility
Eligibility
requirements for scholarships vary greatly - from minimum GPA requirements,
to specific majors or courses of study, to affiliation with certain employers
or organizations.
- Read the
requirements carefully... Make sure you meet the requirements.
- Be sure
you can document your eligibility - this may be part of the application,
or you may be asked to prove it after you are selected.
Qualifications
Once you
are eligible for a scholarship, you need to look at what qualifications
you have for it - what is the scholarship based on?
- Use the
information gathered in Step 1 to build a picture of how you are qualified
for the scholarship.
- Be clear
on the level of your achievements. How far do you exceed the
basic requirements?
Deadlines
Remember,
with most scholarships you are applying for the following academic year. Deadlines are sometimes well in advance
of your need.
- Keep track
of the deadlines for various scholarships. CCC scholarships
all have the same deadlines, but other scholarships may be different. At CCC scholarship applications are accepted once a year, in Spring Term for the following academic year begining in Fall.
- Get started
early - leave time to gather the proper information, and allow time
for persons writing letters of reference.
- Leave
plenty of mailing time - some deadlines are met when your application
is postmarked, others may actually have to be received
by the deadline date.
