Who LIT Serves -
A "transition" can be any of the following: always been a homemaker, or work in a low-skilled job, single parent, recently widowed or divorced, desire to complete a GED, changing careers, recovering from drugs and alcohol, or loss of a loved one. The class best serves the student if the immediate crisis has passed current survival needs are being met.

What LIT Does -
The program will help each participant develop self-awareness, enhance self-esteem, and establish an educational and career direction. The participants start by taking two classes: "Transition Planning" and "Coping with Stress and Depression". The classes are tuition free. The program provides textbooks and may reimburse the cost of childcare and transportation if needed to participate in the program. Removing these barriers makes participation possible for many individuals in transition.

The class topics include self esteem, assertiveness, stress and time management, parenting/child care, communication styles, skill identification, learning styles, personality styles, value clarification, work values, career options, and an awareness of non-traditional career opportunities.

On-going Support -
The LIT students learn to develop an individual plan of action. The LIT staff is available to provide needed assistance or problem solve as individuals move toward their goals. The LIT resource room is a warm and friendly place where students can stop by, have a cup of coffee, use the phone or computer, chat with LIT friends and mentors, eat lunch, or study. The resource room has a library with a large selection of self-help and career books and a growing clothing bank with clothes suitable for work or school. Stop in any time for more information.
