CCC Art Gallery Exhibits Storm Tharp: “DO, DON’T”

Storm Speaking at the opening reception.
The
Art Center Gallery at Clatsop Community College in Astoria will be
exhibiting the work of artist Storm Tharp May 1st – May 19th,
2006. An opening reception for the artist will be held Tuesday, May
2nd at
6:30 pm at the Art Center Gallery. This event is free and open to the
public. Tharp will also be the guest juror for the annual Clatsop Community
College Student Art Exhibition, which will open May 23rd.
Storm Tharp of Portland, Oregon, brings to the Art Center Gallery a
collection of sculpture, drawings and paintings. He is an artist inspired
by concept
and idea rather then the use of specific materials. Known for his exquisite
skills as a draftsman, Tharp uses this talent to create both figurative
and abstract works, be they on paper, canvas or sculptural. Utilizing
clay, tissue, latex paint, along with other more traditional mediums,
Tharp develops imagery that is strong and evocative. His work, always
invoking a direct sense of emotion can portray irony, humility and
humor. There are elements that reflect a classical approach, a trait
exhibited
as a result of his skills. Tharp is as adept in the three dimensional
realm as he is with a pencil in hand, expressing thought and idea at
once with color, texture and dimensionality.
