CCC Receives Praise from Accreditation Visitors
An interim accreditation team from the Northwest Commission on Colleges
and Universities (NWCCU) has just completed a two-day visit at Clatsop
Community College, exiting with generous praise for the College’s
student-centered focus.
The College receives a full accreditation review every 10 years, with
an interim visit, such as this one, mid-way through that cycle.
“We could not be more pleased with the outcome of this visit,” says
Dr. Greg Hamann, CCC President. “The interim team noticed and lauded
the very things we have worked hard to keep at the core of our service
to the community – our commitment to being student-centered and
our commitment to continuous improvement.”
In complimenting the College on its efforts to be student-centered, the
team specifically noted the new evening AAOT degree, extended library
hours, the new computer lab in the library, attention to physical access
for disabled students, plans for “One-Stop” student services,
and student-centered language in the College’s mission statement.
The team also had high praise for the College’s “exemplary
work with area high schools,” noting that more graduates of area
high schools are choosing to attend Clatsop as a result of the College’s
partnerships with local schools.
The College’s program assessment efforts were also complimented.
The team noted the involvement of community members and the leadership
and hard work of faculty in developing meaningful curriculum and program
outcomes. The College was encouraged to continue these efforts and to
use data collected in the assessment process to continually improve curriculum.
The interim team will submit a more detailed written report to the NWCCU
Board, which will issue official commendations and recommendations following
its June meeting.
