CCC Receives Good News From Accrediting Agency
Clatsop Community College received good news this month from the Northwest
Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). The agency reaffirmed
the college’s accreditation and accepted the college’s Spring
2006 Regular Interim Evaluation Report.
“This is great news and some well-earned validation of the hard
work that all of us have been doing to provide quality education that
is fully
accessible to the people of Clatsop County and elsewhere,” said
CCC President Dr. Greg Hamann.
At the same time, the NWCCU requested that the college provide them with
progress reports in the fall of 2007 on two issues: Educational Outcomes
and Assessments and Facilities.
“Neither of these recommendations came as a surprise and were, “in
fact, timely reminders to us of two issues to which we will be directing
a great deal of attention in the year to come,” Hamann said. “CCC
has made great progress in both areas in the past few years, and the
text of the NWCCU Interim Report affirms that progress and commends the
college for that progress. But both CCC and the accrediting agency are
in agreement that this work is not yet done.”
The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) is an independent,
non-profit membership organization recognized by the U.S. Department
of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)
as the regional authority on educational quality and institutional effectiveness
of higher education institutions in the seven-state Northwest region
of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. It fulfills
its mission by establishing accreditation criteria and evaluation procedures
by which institutions are reviewed.
