for the college.
The CCC’s board of directors made a unanimous decision
to move forward with the request during its meeting held last Tuesday
at the
South County
Center in Seaside.
If passed in the November election, money from the bond will go toward
building new, fully accessible facilities to replace the current Jerome
Street campus in Astoria.
The new facility would also increase the physical capacity of the college,
to address the projected growth of higher education in Clatsop County,
and support the expansion of programs such as nursing, small business
development and transferable lower division university courses. It would
also go toward
the improvement of infrastructure, parking and other site improvements
necessary to support the new campus.
Clatsop Community College is the oldest accredited community college
in Oregon. With an enrollment of over 7,200 students and growing, and
many
of its current facilities dating back to the early 1900s, the college
is acting on a long-overdue need to expand its campus to continue to
provide
low-cost, high quality education to Clatsop County and surrounding regions.
