Clatsop Community College Receives Preliminary Geotechnical Report for New Campus

GeoDesign, Inc., the engineering firm hired by Clatsop Community College to conduct a geotechnical study of the John Warren Field area, has found the site acceptable for the proposed development of a new campus.

“Based on the results of our explorations, laboratory testing and analyses, it is our opinion that the site is suitable for the proposed development,” the firm stated in its conclusion of the study, adding that the site is suitable for construction as long as structures built on the site are supported by a deep foundation system and are not constructed within 25 feet from the slope to the south of the proposed site.
“This is good news,” said CCC President Dr. Greg Hamann. “The design concept coming out of the campus design committee meets the conditions the engineering firm recommends.”

Numerous sites have been considered for the location of the college’s new campus. After the aid of the guiding project principles and criteria, the John Warren Field and surrounding areas were selected as the focus for exploration for development options.
Additional subsurface explorations will be conducted at the site, once final plans for the new campus are developed.
