The Northern Lights Flute Ensemble and the Astoria Tuba Quartet will present a not-so-serious recital of chamber music for flutes and tubas on Saturday, March 4, at 7:30 PM at the Clatsop College Performing Arts Center, 16th and Franklin, in Astoria. The evening is titled “Floots and Toots” and is a benefit for the CCC Foundation and Arts and Ideas Program. Admission is $5 at the door. The Northern Lights Flute Ensemble includes local musicians Janet Bowler, Kim Daily, Jenny Kaylor, Shelley Loring and Daisy Stahley.
Featured pieces for flutes include the Mother Goose Suite by Ravel and
several American and Celtic folk tunes arranged or composed by Catherine
McMichael. The Astoria Tuba Quartet includes Brian Bergman, Dennis Hale,
Bob Joiner, and Lee Stromquist. The tuba group will perform Tuba Mobile by
Thom Ritter George and Dances by John Stevens. They will also perform
Antonio Carlos Jobim’s Chega Saudade (No More Blues) arranged especially for
the tuba quartet by Bob Joiner. The flutes and tubas will perform together
in several brief chamber pieces including a light hearted trio (sic) sonata
by PDQ Bach for two flutes, tuba and tambourine. For more information,
contact the Clatsop College Arts and Ideas Program at 338-2473.
