Clatsop Community College Foundation Announces 2006-07 Scholarships

At its monthly Board Meeting on February 15, CCC Foundation approved distributing nearly $94,000 in scholarship funds for the 2006-07 academic year. Over $77,000 of the approved funds will support the College’s Opportunity and Success Grant program. The remainder will be awarded as scholarships subject to criteria not addressed in the Opportunity and Success Grant program, e.g. that the student be enrolled in a specific program or area of study, etc.

Funding for the scholarships comes from 22 endowed and annual Foundation scholarship funds. In addition, the Foundation manages a number of other financial aid funds that are distributed upon the advice of the donating organization or specified program areas within the College. The Foundation also manages several funds that provide program support for specific curriculum areas.

At its meeting, the Board also selected three out of eight proposals submitted by College faculty for a special fundraising effort during the Foundation’s annual “Art of Learning” event to be held on April 1, 2006. The specific needs identified in the selected proposals include automotive hoists, a welding saw, and fitness equipment. They will be promoted together as “Heavy Metal: It’s More Than You Think!”

The “Art of Learning” is the Foundation’s annual fundraising auction of regional artists’ work in an atmosphere of fine dining. During the event, a brief and lively appeal to contribute toward a specific need is held, which this year will be the “Heavy Metal” appeal.
