Senator Betsy Johnson Discusses Government with CCC Students
At the invitation of Debbie Kaspar, CCC Political Science Instructor,
Senator Betsy Johnson visited Kaspar’s State and Local Government
class this week. There she engaged students in a lively discussion about
the interaction between government and citizens and how state government
works. Johnson asked students what state government issues they were
most interested in and students responded with a broad range of topics,
from funding for education to the sales tax.
“
It was a very inspiring dialogue between Senator Johnson and the students,” says
Kaspar, who has invited many visitors to participate in the class this
year, all of whom have brought a unique perspective to the role and activities
of government.
Other visiting participants have been; Senator Joan Dukes, currently
a member of the Northwest Power and Conservation Council; Lylla Gaebel,
Clatsop County Commissioner; David Kaspar, Astoria School Board; Josh
Marguis, Clatsop County District Attorney; Frank Satterwhite, Clatsop
Community College Board; Jim Servino, New Northwest Broadcasters; Mike
Sowder, Astoria Schools Superintendent; and Russ Warr, Astoria City Council;
and Jim Russell and Joe Lewis, Kent State students during the events
of May 1970.
