Clatsop Community College Students Gives Back to Community with
Project Graduation. Feed a Body. Feed a Mind.
The Pi Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Clatsop Community College
is participating in Project Graduation … Feed a Body, Feed a Mind, an initiative
designed to help alleviate hunger and illiteracy in our community. Students and
community members are asked to bring non-perishable food items or children’s
books to the college starting today through June 16, 2006. Donation drop-off
sites are located in each hall of the Jerome Avenue Campus. After collection,
the books and canned goods will be given to local service organizations including
VOCA Camp, Pioneer House, and local food banks.
Clatsop Community College President Greg Hamman summed up the project’s
aims by saying: “Project Graduation is a great way for us to both help
those in need and at the same time remind us that the greatest measure of being
truly educated is the extent to which we work to make our communities and our
world a better place for all.”
“As student leaders within our college, we are pleased to be at the helm
of this new initiative,” said Bob Lawrence, Pi Phi Chapter Vice- President “We
are proud to give students the opportunity to give back to the community that
has supported them throughout their community college experience.”
“I believe Victory Over Child Abuse (VOCA) Camp is our community’s
response to the devastating issue of child sexual abuse. This generous gift of
books will be used by volunteers to read to children during camp,” said
Margaret Frimoth, VOCA Camp Director. “Reading connects adults and children
in safe, healthy, healing ways.
