Over 200 high school students from Rainier, Clatskanie, Knappa, Astoria, Seaside and Jewell participated in the 9th annual Business Leaders of Tomorrow Regional Skills Conference March 14, 2006 at the Seaside Civic & Convention Center. The event was sponsored by the North Coast Educational Consortium and Astoria Warrenton Chamber of Commerce and hosted such activities as: skill competitions including Graphic Arts, Business Practices Team Test, Applied Business Math, Computer Concepts, Economics, Job Interview, Marketing, Accounting I & II and Public Speaking; leadership workshops developed by Astoria High School, and panel discussion groups focusing on Effective Management and Entrepreneurship and Dress for Success.

The Business Leaders of Tomorrow Skills Conference is an extension of regional high school business education programs. Its main goal is to enhance the building of student self-esteem through achievements in course work.

This year’s keynote speaker was Patrick George, a motivational speaker from the Jostens Speakers Bureau. Patrick uses true situations to teach students that they can make a difference and they can succeed.
