CCC Student Art Award Winners Announced

The Annual Student Exhibition at Clatsop Community College Art Center Gallery is being held May 22th through June 12th. The Student Exhibition is a juried event and encompasses the mediums of painting, ceramics, sculpture, photography and drawing. The exhibit showcases the talent and diversity of the College’s art students. During the opening reception, prizewinners in 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional categories were announced along with Best in Show and the President’s Choice Award. The award winners are:

2-dimensional work
First Place: Lou Kister, "The Reader"


Second Place: Chris Freeman, "View Out My Kitchen Window"

Third Place: Devan Gill, "Self-Portrait With Father"


3-dimensional work
First Place: Dindia Zitek "Glaze Tests"

Second Place: Caitlin Clarke "Stoneware Bowl"


Third Place: Rhonda Gruderic, "Broken Wings"


Best In Show was awarded to Howard Clarke for his pottery work entitled ‘Stoneware Bowl’.

The President s Choice Award went to Pat Butterworth’s oil painting, ‘Freddie’.

This year’s event was juried by guest artist Storm Tharp of Portland, Oregon. Tharp is known throughout the region for his exquisite skills as a draftsman, and also for his sense of composition and concept. Tharp has twice been awarded the Oregon Biennial and has been featured in the art publications ArtWeek and ArtNews. He has also been the recipient of an Individual Fellowship awarded by the Oregon Arts Commission in 2005 and his work has been included in private collections nationwide.
