CCC and OSU Degree Partnership Program Opens New Doors for CCC Students
Clatsop Community College and Oregon State University have formalized
a concurrent enrollment agreement that will enable students to be jointly
admitted and enroll concurrently at both institutions. The partnership
is intended to improve student access, expand student options for college-level
services and curriculum, and to support student success and baccalaureate
degree completion.
“The real ‘winners’ in this arrangement are our students,” says
Dr. Greg Hamann, President of CCC. “We live in an environment of
great geographic diversity and beauty, but the remoteness of our geography
has also created challenges for students who wish to continue on to a
bachelor’s degree. This creates a smooth educational pathway and
draws our two institutions closer to better serve our students.”
Hamann’s words were echoed by Bob Bontrager, OSU Assistant Provost. “[The
degree partnership program] effectively eliminates many of the barriers
to attending a four-year university such as OSU and improves overall
access to post-secondary education.”
The program with OSU allows for one admission application for both institutions,
coordinated financial aid, and the flexibility to take courses at each
institution at the same time. CCC and OSU are now working on the details
of articulation agreements that will define CCC courses and programs
that meet specific general education and program requirements at OSU.
The agreement was signed during the Degree Partnership Summit held last
Thursday at OSU. The summit attracted more than 100 educators nationwide
to discuss concurrent enrollment, ranging from how to improve program
articulation and data-sharing systems among partner institutions, to
helping students with financial aid, advising and registration.
