Visiting Artist Works with CCC Art Students

Australian artist, Dr. Terry Davies, conducted a ceramics workshop for Clatsop Community College art students last week as part of a two week visiting artist stay at the College. During his stay, he will also be speaking to and working with the students of Richard Rowland, CCC Art Instructor, at Rowland’s Dragon Kiln.

Dr. Davies completed an M.A. in 1996 and a PhD in 2002. He has also written a maritime history of his natal village of Borth, Wales, which was published in 2003. Dr. Davies also holds an honorarium position with Monash University, Melbourne.

On his working philosophy, Dr. Davies says, “My modus operandi is outlined in my PhD thesis in the form of a mythopoetic narrative that encompassed bioregionalism, area specific art, custodial aesthetics, phenomenology and the pastoral. Essentially, I wish to express a personal belief that in this age of science and technology, it is imperative to tell stories about what it is to be human. My creations attempt to do that.”

Dr. Davies’ visit is part of an ongoing effort by the Art faculty to enrich the learning experience for CCC art students by bringing nationally and internationally renowned artists to the College.
