CCC’s Nursing Department Presents Sim Man Open House
He speaks, he breaths, he has a pulse and… he even throws up!
The public is invited to come meet Sim Man, known as “Frank,” a
high-fidelity simulation training mannequin, the latest addition to Clatsop
Community College’s nursing department.
Join Laurie Choate, the new Director of Nursing and Allied Health and
other nursing department staff for the Sim Man Open House, from 5:30-7
p.m. Tuesday, October 10 at CCC’s Health Sciences Building.
The Sim Man Open House will feature demonstrations of “Frank,” who
is anatomically realistic, allowing for a the practice of a wide range
of emergency medical procedures. Students can practice palpitating pulses,
listen to heart and lung sounds, see and hear immediate responses to
care (if Frank is unhappy, he’ll let you know!) and practice insertion
of IV catheters, chest tubes, etc.
Sim Man can be used for training in other agencies throughout Clatsop
County, such as local hospitals, EMT and fire department training. He
can also be used at career fairs and high school demonstrations to stimulate
interest in the high-growth health care industry.
Sim Man was purchased with a $96,000 Community-Based Job Training Grant
that Clatsop Community College received through the Oregon Healthcare
Workforce Partnership Project (OHWP), funded by the U.S. Department of
Labor. CCC was one of nine community colleges in Oregon awarded the grant
to support workforce training for high growth industries such as health
care through community and technical colleges.
