Tenth Annual Business Leaders of Tomorrow Skills Conference
Brings Students Closer To Their Professional Dreams

About 130 high school students from Rainier, Clatskanie, Knappa, Astoria, Seaside and Jewell participated in the 10th annual Business Leaders of Tomorrow Regional Skills Conference April 10, 2007 at the Seaside Civic & Convention Center. The event was sponsored by the North Coast Educational Consortium, Clatsop Community College, Astoria Warrenton Chamber of Commerce and Bradwood Landing and hosted such activities as: skill competitions including Graphic Arts, Accounting and Public Speaking, Job Interview, a leadership workshop developed by Astoria High School, and a discussion group focusing on the Evolution of Business and Dress for Success with representation from Nordstrom.

The Business Leaders of Tomorrow Skills Conference is an extension of regional high school business education programs. Its main goal is to enhance the building of student self-esteem through achievements in course work.

This year’s keynote speaker was Rick Minniefield, a Professional Speaker Leadership Consultant. Mr. Minniefield states “I challenge you to set incredibly high goals…I challenge you that even though the title says 'leader' you understand that leader also means being right by yourself rather than wrong with the rest of the crowd.” In the skill competition portion of the conference, students competed in fifteen educational areas.
