From: Caitlin Wright Clatsop Community College Au Naturel: The Nude in the 21st Century- Now Accepting Submissions For CCC's Second Juried International Art Exhibition Clatsop Community College is hosting their second international juried exhibit titled Au Naturel: The Nude in the 21st Century. The exhibition will run March 4th - April 8th, 2008 at CCC's Art Center Gallery. Margaret Bullock, the Curator of Collections and Special Exhibitions to the Tacoma Art Museum, will jury the show. There will be up to $3,000 in awards and consideration for a solo exhibition. "The first Au Naturel competition far exceeded our wildest expectations, and we foresee an even bigger response for our next one," states Kristin Shauck, instructor of drawing, painting, and design in the CCC art program. The first competition, juried by Royal Nebeker, an internationally acclaimed artist who has taught in the CCC art program for over 30 years, included more than 70 works from over 300 entries, and represented artists from 13 states including Hawaii, plus Washington D.C., and international artists from Europe, Asia and North America. Elaine Green, first place winner of the 2007 competition and whose work was featured in a solo show that opened this academic year's exhibition season, describes the significance of the nude in art: "For me, the nude figure represents embodied consciousness: the connection between our involuntary physical responses--such as body empathy, body memory, trauma effect-and our lived experience." This competition is open to both national and international artists, working in drawing, painting, and/or printmaking media. Submissions must be received by the CCC Art Center Gallery (last day to postmark) by January 29th, 2008. A prospectus containing specifications on media requirements, fees, and terms is available online at www.clatsopcc.edu. For more information please contact Kristin Shauck at (503) 338-2472. |
