Mariachi Viva Mexico to perform in Second Annual Arte Latino Experience
The Lower Columbia Hispanic Council is proud to present the Mariachi Band Viva Mexico in the second annual Arte Latino Experience. This presentation is co-sponsored by Clatsop Community College’s Arts & Ideas.

Viva Mexico will perform at the Performing Arts Center on Friday, March 9 from 7-9 p.m. The group will play popular Mariachi music that includes the songs “Cielito Lindo,” “La Bamba” and “El Son de la Negra.”

Viva Mexico was founded in 1994 by musician Humberto Guillén. Mr. Guillén comes from a family of Mariachi musicians and grew up surrounded by music, as his father was a professional Mariachi artist.

“I have music in my blood,” said Mr. Guillén, who was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, the cradle of Mariachi music. Through his involvement with different musical groups and his studies at Portland State University, Mr. Guillén has grown as a professional musician.
Mariachi Viva Mexico has performed with well-known Latin American artists such as Pedro Fernández, Pepe Aguilar and Paquita del Barrio. Mariachi Viva Mexico has also been the music of a nationally distributed Nike commercial and is now working with the city of Bend in promotional work. The group resides in Washington County, where they are currently working on the production of their first CD.

The event is free and open to the community. The Performing Arts Center is located at 16th and Franklin Streets in Astoria. For more information contact Clatsop Community College Arts & Ideas at (503) 338-2473.
