The Clatsop Community College Board held its semi-annual retreat on January
10 to discuss three strategic issues relevant to the College’s
future: Facilities planning, funding predictions and budget planning,
and enrollment growth strategies.
“The Board sets policy and strategic direction for the College,” says
CCC President Greg Hamann, “and these are the fundamental issues
for the College in terms of both short and long-term planning. It is
very satisfying to work with a Board that works hard to ensure that the
College continues to fulfill its mission of serving the educational needs
of the community.”
After carefully reviewing the results of the voter survey conducted in
December by ActiDyne, a marketing survey firm, the Board concurs with
the survey’s conclusions that location was the primary reason that
Clatsop County voters turned down the recent campus bond measure and
that Clatsop County voters are supportive of a May 2007 bond measure
that specifies that the campus be “built in Warrenton, utilizing
property donated to the college for that purpose.”
Before deciding whether to place such a measure on the May ballot, the
Board has asked President Hamann to make presentations at the public
meetings throughout the County. He will meet with City Councils and the
County Commission to review the survey findings and solicit feedback
and possible support for the future facilities planning and development
directions being considered.
“The Board is listening and has heard through the survey of the
strong voter support for the college and for a new campus in Warrenton” states
Hamann, “but we hope to use these City and County meetings as a
way to clarify and confirm the public’s voice before making our
decision.”
President Hamann, accompanied by one or more Board members, is scheduled
to make presentations at the following public meetings:
Warrenton City Council January 23, 7 p.m. at Warrenton City Hall.
Astoria City Council February 5, 7 p.m. at Astoria City Hall
Cannon Beach City Council February 6, 7 p.m. at Cannon Beach City Hall
