Art Faculty of CCC to exhibit at the Art Center Gallery, Clatsop Community College January 8th – February 2nd, 2007, artist’s reception January 9th, 6:00 pm.

Exhibiting January 8th – February 2nd, 2007 at the Art Center Gallery of Clatsop Community College will be the work of the art faculty of CCC. There will be an artist’s reception held Tuesday, January 9th at 6:00 pm. Included in this exhibition will be the work of both present and past faculty members, displaying the many diverse disciplines the art department has offered throughout its history. This exhibition is also indicative of the quality of studies available to students at Clatsop Community College.

The exhibition will include the work of Richard Rowland, senior instructor who teaches ceramics and sculpture. Rowland, known throughout the northwest for his anagama kiln is highly regarded for his atmospheric firing techniques. He has been awarded the Oregon Governor’s Award for his work and community involvement.

Kristin Shauck teaches painting, drawing and design and has been with the college for 3 years. Her work is inspired by the human form as well as color. She currently is represented by RiverSea Gallery of Astoria.

Sonja May and Royal Nebeker will be exhibiting prints and paintings. Nebeker, known internationally for his paintings and print work, has been with Clatsop Community College for over 25 years. He has taught painting, drawing and most recently printmaking. He is currently represented by the White Bird Gallery of Cannon Beach and Augen Gallery of Portland, Oregon. Sonja May, who is currently teaching printmaking, went through the art program at CCC before earning her MFA from Pratt Institute of Art. She has taught both drawing and watercolor classes.

David Lee Myers and Chuck Meyer will be exhibiting both color and black and white photography. David Lee Myers takes inspiration for his work from the lush northwest landscape. He combines that natural beauty with the modern techniques of digital photography. Chuck Meyer, who besides teaching photography, owns and operates The Compleat Photographer. His interest lies in the historic content and context of photography.

Lucien Swerdloff teaches computer science and graphic design and has been with the college since 1998. He will be showing digitally enhanced photography.

Bill Antilla is a Maritime Science instructor with MERTS and will be including his woodcarvings in the Faculty Exhibition.

Past faculty members included in the exhibition will be Margaret Theirry and Roy Garrison. Garrison who was the founding member of the art department retired at the end of the 2006 academic year.
Besides being an art historian, Garrison is a sculptor who works in bronze. Margaret Theirry developed the textiles program at CCC in 1989; she is a weaver known for her dramatic use of color and original design sense. She is currently represented by RiverSea Gallery of Astoria.

The Art Faculty Exhibition will be on display at the Art Center Gallery, Clatsop Community College January 8th February 2nd, 2007. There will be an opening reception for the artists Tuesday January 9th at 6:00 pm. The reception is free and open to the public. For more information contact Teri Sund at (503) 338-2478.
