CCC Arts & Ideas Presents World Religion Day; Honoring the Unity
of All Beliefs
Clatsop Community College’s Arts & Ideas presents a program
honoring World Religion Day at 7 p.m. Saturday, January 20. The chosen
topic for the presentation is “How do we as people of faith honor
each other’s beliefs and attain world peace?” The event is
free and open to the public.
Faith presenters will also perform music and chants, and quilts and banners
will be on display. Six different faiths will present, in order of historical
timeline; Hindu, Jewish, Buddhist, Christian, Islam and Baha’i.
World Religion Day began in 1948 to foster the establishment of interfaith
understanding and harmony. Appearing on the United Nations Calendar annually,
it emphasizes the common denominators underlying all religions. The message
of World Religion Day is that mankind, which has stemmed from one origin,
must now strive toward the reconciliation of that which has been split
up. Human unity and true equality depend not on past origins, but rather
on future goals—on what we are becoming and where we are going.
Through World Religion Day observances, a unified approach to the changes
that confront humanity is discussed, with the goal that the whole earth
can be viewed as a single country and humanity as its citizenry.
We are all truly related.
Join this gathering of faiths in helping to establish a common dialogue
at 7 p.m. Saturday, January 20 at the Performing Arts Center, located
at the corner of 16th and Exchange Streets in Astoria.
The World Religion Day event is co-sponsored by South County Interfaith
Partnership (SCIP) and the Baha’i’s of Clatsop County.
Join us in peace.
