North Oregon Coast Symphony Announces Season Finale Concert

The North Oregon Coast Symphony (NOCS) will perform works by Rossini, Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky at its season finale concert. There will be two performances; the first concert is scheduled for June 22, 7 p.m. at Tillamook United Methodist Church, 3808 12th Street in Tillamook. A second performance will also take place at 3 p.m. June 24 at the Clatsop Community College Performing Arts Center, 16th and Franklin in Astoria. This popular group’s final concert of the season is entitled “A Commemoration and a Reformation.”

“We will be performing Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 5, the ‘Reformation’ in its entirety. This is a significant work which is powerful, melodic and memorable,” said NOCS Conductor and Artistic Director Collin Heade.

“We are also very proud that we will be commemorating our inaugural scholarship awards through the Sandy Stromquist Memorial Scholarship Program. Scholarship announcements will be made at the concert for outstanding high school seniors who have demonstrated exemplary efforts during their tenure with the North Oregon Coast Symphony.”

Tickets for the June concert are available at the door, or in advance from any NOCS musician. Advance tickets for the Astoria concert are also available at Thiel’s Music, 1375 Commercial Street in Astoria. Admission is $10 and students 12 and under are admitted free with adults.

The North Oregon Coast Symphony is a dedicated group of volunteer musicians who gather together weekly to rehearse classical music to perform for the community. Music is a lifelong endeavor and NOCS musicians range in age from high school to senior citizens.
The NOCS also stewards the Sandy Stromquist Memorial Scholarship Fund. Graduating high school seniors who have played an entire season with the NOCS are eligible for scholarships awarded annually in June.

The 2006-2007 NOCS Concert Season is made possible with generous support from CCC Arts & Ideas, TCL Federal Credit Union and the Bay City Arts Center. For more information about the concert or the scholarship fund, call (503) 368-7160.
