CCC’s Arts & Ideas presents “In Concert… JB & The Funkyard Gang”

JB & the Funkyard Gang, led by Jon Belcher, the soundtrack drummer from TV’s “Fat Albert & the Cosby Kids” show, return to Astoria for a concert of soulful contemporary jazz at Clatsop Community College’s Performing Arts Center from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 18.

Back by popular demand, the gang brings a highly skilled yet funky blend of Jazz, Latin and R & B to the PAC. They will perform music by Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane, the Meters, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown and their own original works.

Drummer/leader Jon Belcher is a veteran of the Los Angeles recording studios. He has performed and toured with Al Wilson (“Show & Tell”), Phoebe Snow (“poetry Man”), Crystal Gayle and Latin percussionist Jack Costanzo. Jon has also recorded with Ollie Mitchell, Larry Groce (the gold record “Junk Food Junkie”), TV jingles with Doc Severinson and the soundtracks for TV’s “Fat Albert” show. Joining Jon are three of Portland’s finest, Jeff Homan on tenor saxophone, Jake Kot on electric bass and guitarist Frank Tribble.

Tickets are $10 and are now available at Bach n’ Rock, 339 12th Street, Astoria (next to the Hotel Elliot) or by calling (503) 338-2408. Tickets may also be purchased one hour prior to the performance (subject to availability) at the PAC box office, 16th and Franklin in Astoria.
