Easter weekend, Saturday, April 7, 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 8, 7:30
p.m. at the Clatsop Community College Performing Arts Center in Astoria.
Music
and theater performance celebrate the emerging folk-rock era. From
protest to politics and poetry, pop culture and social consciousness
are set
in vintage variety show style.
Poprockin’ Folk Cabaret is a CCC Arts & Ideas program sponsored
in part by TLC Federal Credit Union.
Entertainment and imagination, the mission and the craft of theater,
and music merge on stage to create an original, local production. Creator
and MC Dinah Urell performs vocal arrangements of pop, rock, and folk
from the 60s, accompanied by ensemble the PRFC Orchestra. Featured
guests will perform dance, comedy, poetry and more. The debut weekend
pilot-performance
will see a developed concept with an extended run in the summer of
2007. A part of the project’s mission will be to showcase coastal
artists in a staged setting, with a varied roster of performers on
any given
night. With a multi-disciplinary bent, the PRFC stage will nurture
breakout artistry as well as featured musicians and artists using the
60s era
as a creative and time relevant backdrop.
This pilot production features actor Walt Trumbull in a portrayal of
comedian Lenny Bruce and dancer Sheila Harper takes us to the land
of psychedelia. Poet Florence Sage and acoustic group Birch Trio also
perform.
Nationally known lighting designer Scott Holthaus and former Portland
set designer, Sen Incavo, whose work is seen at the River Theater,
help to set the stage, with light show effects created by Judy Lampi
and Thomas
Johnston.
