Announcing CCC’s Annual Juried Student Exhibition Award Winners
The Annual Student Exhibition at Clatsop Community College Art Center
Gallery is being held May 21– June 15. Award winners were announced
during the opening reception for the students/artists on Tuesday, May
22.
The Student Exhibition is a juried event. This year’s exhibition
was juried by guest artist Claire Cowie of Seattle. Cowie, who received
her MFA in printmaking from the University of Washington, has recently
gained recognition regionally and nationally for her work. Cowie selected
the work to be exhibited as well as award winning work. “I saw
many examples of wonderful line quality, an excellent awareness of composition
and form, attention to surface treatment and media,” she said. “And
I was impressed by the obvious investment and commitment of the faculty.”

The Student Exhibition encompasses most disciplines being
taught at CCC, including design, drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture,
photography and printmaking.
This exhibit showcases the talent and diversity of the art department’s
students. During the opening reception, cash prizewinners were announced along
with the President’s Choice Award. The award winners for two-dimensional
work are: first place, Nathan Paddock; second place, Tim Liddiard; and third
place, David rr Homer. Three-dimensional award winners are: first place, Randy
McClelland; second place, Rick Houston; and third place, Eddie Park.
Best In Show was awarded to Marlin Huey for his ceramic set of vessels titled “Power
of Glaze x 3.” The President’s Choice Award, selected by Greg Hamann
was awarded to Siobhan Murphy for her oil painting “Gesture: A Man Found” and “Box,” a
clay sculpture by Karl McMurtry.
The Art Center Gallery will also be participating in the Arts Night Out Astoria
Art Walk on Saturday, June 9—another opportunity to view the Annual Student
Exhibition. Visit http://www.clatsopcc.edu/PR/2007/MAY/student_art.html to view
