From: Judy Zell Clatsop Community College 11th Annual Business Leaders of Tomorrow Skills Conference Brings Students Closer To Their Professional Dreams Approximately 170 students from Rainier, Clatskanie, Knappa, Astoria and Seaside high schools participated in the 11th annual Business Leaders of Tomorrow Regional Skills Conference on April 9, 2008 at the Seaside Civic & Convention Center in Seaside, OR. The event’s activities included skill competitions, a leadership workshop developed by Astoria High School, and a discussion group focusing on the topics Entrepreneurship and Dress for Success (featuring Nordstrom representatives). North Coast Educational Consortium of Clatsop Community College sponsored the Business Leaders of Tomorrow Skills Conference. The conference is an extension of regional high school business education programs. Its main goal is to enhance the building of student self-esteem through achievements in course work. This year's keynote speaker was Rick Minniefield, a Professional Speaker Leadership Consultant. Mr. Minniefield states, "I challenge you to set incredibly high goals. I challenge you that, even though the title says “leader,” you understand that leader also means being right by yourself rather than wrong with the rest of the crowd." In the skill competition portion of the conference, students competed in seventeen educational areas. The winners by category are as follows: 10-Key: 1st Place - Linda Villasenor, Seaside High School Accounting I: 1st Place - Nicole Baker, Rainier High School Accounting II 1st Place - Linda Villasenor, Seaside High School Applied Business Math: 1st Place - Nathan Stecker, Rainier High School Business Practices Team Test: 1st Place - Victor Rose, Hilary O'Bryan, Ryan Fritsch and Sara Cullen, Astoria High School Graphic Design: 1st Place - April Cockeroft, Seaside High School Economics: 1st Place - Victor Rose, Astoria High School Integrated Computer Applications: 1st Place - Megan Walsh, Seaside High School Job Interview: 1st Place -Zach Plant, Rainier High School Keyboarding: 1st Place - Jodi Lucenti, Seaside High School Public Speaking: 1st Place -Ryan Fritsch, Astoria High School Beginning Web Page Design: 1st Place - Lindsey Wolfe, Seaside High School Advanced Web Page Design: 1st Place - Chris Bodell, Seaside High School Promo/Advertising: 1st Place - Carlie Gilligan, April Cockcroft, Taylor Ames, Seaside High School Marketing: 1st Place - Aleesha Nedd, Astoria High School Desktop Publishing: 1st Place - Briana Bruijn, Seaside High School Computer Concepts: 1st Place - Tim Pugh, Seaside High School The North Coast Education Consortium would like to congratulate the winners and all those who participated in the conference for a job well done.
