CCC Receives $15,000 Grant From The Juan Young Trust for Pathways to Health Occupations Program
CCC has received word that the Juan Young Trust has awarded the college a $15,000 grant to help fund a classroom and equipment for Pathways to Health Occupations in Rural Oregon, a state program designed to introduce high school students to various healthcare occupations options in a college atmosphere while providing program-appropriate high school course guidance, and access to potential financial aid to assist with educational goals.
Health occupations continue to experience employment growth in Oregon while the nation continues to experience a shortage of nurses and other health occupation professionals. CCC's Health Occupations Department directly meets this need and also benefits the Clatsop County community because 70% of its graduates opt to stay and work locally.
The Juan Young Trust grant will allow CCC to provide shared classroom and lab space for the high-school focused Pathways to Health Occupations Program, essentially expanding student opportunity, community benefits, and meeting the need for more trained health occupations professionals. The classroom will be constructed in the new sciences building of CCC's Jerome Campus Redevelopment Project and the Juan Young Trust funds will help to purchase beds, overbed tables, bedside tables, headboards, and locking medcarts.
The Juan Young Trust has consistently provided scholarships funds for CCC students, so this grant reinforces the Juan Young Trust's commitment to community colleges and their students.
