Free Lecture: Latino Women and Families: The Integration of the New Immigrants

The Associated Student Government of Clatsop Community College is sponsoring a free lecture at the PAC (located at 16th St. and Franklin St. in Astoria, OR) on March 7, 2008 at 7:00 PM titled "Latino Women & Families: The Integration of the New Immigrants." Dr. Marcela Mendoza of the University of Oregon presents this event. She will speak on the settlement of Latino immigrants in nontraditional destinations such as the South and the Midwest, and also the reception experienced by these families in rural Oregon. Two local women, who have immigrated to Clatsop County from Latin America, will share their personal experiences.

The Road Scholars Program is part of the University of Oregon's Center for the Study of Women in Society.  This public lecture program is in its fifth year, and since the program's inception, presenters have spoken to over 2000 community members, in at least 35 venues across the state. There is a suggested donation of $2 at the door to raise funds for the Lower Columbia Hispanic Council.

For more information, please contact Joanie Weatherly at (503) 338-2480 or Eileen Purcell at (503) 338-2557.
