Students Benefit From Collaboration Between Clatsop Community College and Linn-Benton Community College Radiology Program

Through a unique collaboration between Clatsop Community College and Linn-Benton Community College, CCC students now have the opportunity to complete LBCC's Radiology Program without ever leaving Clatsop County.

"This is an excellent opportunity to enter a rewarding field without having to leave your community!" says Jo Black, CCC Nursing Instructor and advisor for the Radiology Program.  After taking the prerequisite classes at CCC, admitted students take the radiology classes on-line and receive clinical instruction at hospitals and healthcare facilities in the local area. Through a federally funded grant received by LBCC, CCC is able to offer one guaranteed admission spot per year to a qualified student selected by CCC.

Ms. Black continues, "People may not be aware that this program exists. There are opportunities just waiting for those interested."

A radiological technologist uses a variety of equipment to provide images of patients' tissues, organs, bones and blood vessels. According to the American Society of Radiological Technologists (AART), there is a shortage of radiological technologists, and the Oregon Employment Department identifies the vacancy rate of this profession as the highest for all healthcare personnel in the area.

Admission for the Radiology Program starts in the spring. There is a required pre-application information session offered on-line Jan. 7 - Feb. 29, 2008. It must be completed to be eligible for the program. Applications are accepted March 3 - March 21, 2008. This program is eligible for financial aid.
