Clatsop Community College’s (CCC) next Brown Bag Lecture will be held on Wednesday, November 19th, 2008 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in CCC'S Art Center Gallery. Our featured speaker will be Northwest Geologist and CCC Professor Emeritus, Paul See.

Paul See is a deeply respected geologist in Clatsop County and is responsible for teaching many individuals about the geological formations of our natural wonders. The general public knows Paul See for his countless, educational on -site, early morning "field trips" through the years to such places as Hug Point State Park south of Cannon Beach.

Please join us for this fascinating and important lecture and book reading. Free and open to the public. The Art Center Gallery is ADA accessible. Bring your lunch!

Paul See was born in 1923, and spent his early years on a small dairy farm operated by his parents about six miles north of Seaside.  The farm was located on a grassy coastal
dunefield, with numerous swamps and interdune lakes. Neighbors were few, but several boys helped generate many of the chaotic incidents related in his NEW book: Reflections of an Ornery Country Kid.

World War II interrupted Paul See's college education. After a stint in the Navy, he managed to obtain a degree in Geology from Oregon State College, (now University), and worked for 13 years in the oil industry as an exploration geologist.

Returning to his roots in 1963, Paul See obtained a graduate degree from Portland State, eventually becoming an Oregon registered geologist and teacher/administrator at Clatsop
Community College.  He retired in 1987, living with his wife Shirley on a fifty-acre parcel that has been in his family for over 140 years.

Paul's reminiscences about his youth brought about a growing interest in the personal recollections of other local seniors, so far resulting in 67 recorded oral history interviews over the past 17+ years for the Clatsop County and Seaside Historical Societies.

Additionally, Clatsop Community College will host a class taught by Paul See this winter. In his class, History of Clatsop Plains, Paul See will share his childhood memories and first hand knowledge of growing up on Clatsop Plains. His presentations will include factual history and many of his humorous anecdotes as an "ornery country kid!”

This non-credit class is offered from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays at CCC’s South County Campus from February 7th - February 28th. The cost for this class is $38.00 and with the Gold Card discount is $29.25. CCC’s South County Campus is ADA accessible.

Contact the Student Services Center at (503) 338-2438, (503) 338-2411 or (503) 338-2402 to register. Registration for this class is December 1st – January 9th.

Clatsop Community College is an affirmative action, equal opportunity institution.
