The
one-year certificate training program will give individuals the basic
knowledge and skills necessary to become employed as deck hands on vessels
in a wide variety
of maritime occupations. Topics covered include: Intro
to Seamanship and Maritime Careers; Intro to Fishing Gear Types and
Safety; Intro to Watchkeeping; Marine Safety;
Vessel Operations; Knots-Splices-Lines and Rigging; Net
Mending, Handling-Repair and Storage of Fishing Gear; Basic Navigation;
and Cooperative Work Experience. The Vessel Operations Associate Degree will provide an individual with the knowldedge, skills, work habits and attitude to perform work on a vessel as an entry level deckhand. |
