Programs currently at MERTS include:
Maritime Science Department
We provide specialized marine training courses and programs, many of which are
approved by the U.S. Coast Guard for obtaining Coast Guard licenses and certificates.
Many courses are taught aboard our training vessel, the M/V Forerunner, giving you
hands-on knowledge and skills.
Specialized courses include Radar-Observer, Marine Safety, Marine License Preparation,
Commercial Fishing Vessel Crew Member Training, GMDSS, ARPA and Navigation.
Industrial & Manufacturing Technologies
The diversified Industrial and Marine-related training courses include: OSHA- based
computerized Safety Training Modules; Computer-Aided Drafting and Design; Geographic
Information Systems (GIS) workshops; Welding and Fabrication Curriculum utilizing
the American Welding Society’s nationwide skills standards; Conventional Machine
Tool & Computerized Numerical Control Programming instruction; Diversified Internal
Combustion Engine applications; Pneumatic and Fluid Power Transmission Fundamentals
and HVAC principals
Oregon Health & Science University
The Center for Coastal and Land-Margin Research studies many facets of the Columbia
River estuary. Ongoing research projects include tsunami hazard mitigation, tidal
studies in Youngs Bay and the movement of fine sediments in the river.
Coastal Studies and Technology Center
A nonprofit, educational group based at Seaside High School that provides opportunities
for students and staff members to study coastal resources through community-based
projects.
Portland State University
PSU offers research and education programs in natural resources and environmental
science; telecommunications support and data resources for MERTS partners; pathways
toward a four-year degree; and opportunities to work with PSU faculty and scientists. |
